Let gratitude be the attitude 💫
Here are some snapshots with great memories of Caribbean times in Mayreau, Union, and Carriacou. These are paradise islands I sailed in and out of many times and made a basecamp now and then.
Beautiful, isn’t it?
These paradise islands, and buildings you see in these pictures, got pretty much flattened this week, by hurricane Beryl. Gone.
But not the memories and the people.
The Caribbean people and islands have a big place in my heart. It’s one of these places I call home.
I spent a couple of winters in the Caribbean. Sailing, exploring, learning, volunteering, eating exotic yummyness, expanding my worldview, ocean view, , just living outside, and welcomed with warm hearts. I fell in love with the Carriaccou sloops, beach-built hand-made boats of which most of them miraculously survived the hurricane. I also wrote a large part of my book Ocean Nomad there to encourage you to jump on a sailboat across the ocean and reach these paradise islands powered by nature.
Many people lost their houses, most their roofs & few did not survive. I wonder how all the animals are doing. Boats sank and as I write this, boats are sinking with people still living on it.
Topics on the internet are about whether someone has seen their friend, the urgent goods needed, how boats can support and how boats can be ‘disposed’ that not survived. It’s surviving and rebuilding, taking it day by day. Heartbreaking to see and once again a reminder of the preciousness of life.
That all said, the videos I see with the positive and smiling and gratitude attitude puts a big smile on my face and hope in my heart. People are resilient. But need our help!
Help out in any way you can! Ship in goodies, lend a hand, make a donation, share and care.
100% of proceeds from my book Ocean Nomad go to Beryl Relief support this July. And if you follow the tips, you can arrive there by sailboat later this year and lend a hand.

It’s these islands that inspired me lots to create my book and the Ocean Nomads community. Now time to act to help create life back in the islands!
