Holiday sales always arrives with the same contrast. The world outside slows down, inviting stillness, long nights, early dawns, and outdoor adventure dreaming is on. Yet online everything speeds up with every early holiday commerce sign.
Your email inbox and timeline are likely to be bombarded this week with black friday deals and specials. Consumerism is not something we as outdoor and nature lovers support. You ‘only' need to dive below the surface, sail or catch a surfwave and the impact of our consumption doesn't go unseen in the form of (micro)plastics.
If you live close to the natural world, you probably feel the tension. Most outdoor adventurers and nomad souls carry little and choose with intention. We patch our jackets, repair our bags, and keep our outdoor essentials minimal and meaningful.
That said, the average food basket these days doubled in investment and if there's a deal to snatch that can greatly enhance your outdoor adventures or nomad lifestyle for years to come, there's a window of opportunity. The only thing I'm buying this weekend is a ferry ticket so I can hop to a different island with the van.
