Slow travel guides

Places I've lived in for months, not days. The van's the core, with the trails on foot and the coast by sail where it fits. My own spots, and never an itinerary.

How I make these

I've lived on the move for twenty years, six of them in the van, and I only write a guide about a place after I've lived there for months. Morocco was nine months over two winters, Galicia more than eight, and the Canary Islands a few winters in a row. So you get base camps: where to put yourself, what's within reach from there, and only places I've stayed myself. The van is the core layer because that's how I travel, with notes for doing the same on foot, by bus or by sail. There are no itineraries. You get the spots, my note on each one (the road in, where we parked, whether you can stay the night) and the know-how to find your own. Where a rule or a price matters it carries a source and the date I checked it, and where I haven't been, it isn't in the guide. A few of these spots were pinned first on the member map of Ocean Nomads, a community for people who want to live a little wilder, explore a little further, and do it with good people.

Between guides I write slow letters from the road, and the gear and tools behind all of this live on my travel resources page.
