My super dad! 65 years young today! 🎉A big part of my adventure spirit is thanks to him 🕺🏼He showed me his enthusiasm for diving, curiousity to the unknown, and fearlessness for the wild and natural world 🌱. We may not often be physically together, but he’s always one call away to guide, love, and sprinkle the right words into my journey🙏 He’s always positive, humble, honest, decisive, and caring. That approach to life gives him many more years and lots of inspiration for me and those around him. A coconut cheers to many more years of wisdom, love, and adventures 🥥Keep shining dad✨And drinking superpower smoothies with our DIY bamboo straws :) I’m looking forward to our next adventure! ⛵️🏕️🔥🤿🚐

10 memorable moments with dad📸

📸1. It was my first time sailing in the Netherlands for me. Parents jumped on board. ’20
📸2. Diving with Dad in Mauritius ’08. I lived here for 6 months doing an internship. Learning cultures, kitesurfing, and that office life is not for me. He came to visit and we dove to meet sharks.
📸 3. Grade 4 river rafting in Ecuador ’12. Is he adventure dad or what? I lived in Peru that year learning Spanish and volunteering. Parents came visit during my visa in Ecuador.
📸4. First time ever at the helm for dad. My Book launch of Ocean Nomad on SV Grace ’17
📸5. Sailing Madeira - Canary Islands with Ocean Nomads. Dad just stopped working & adventure was ON. ’21
📸6. Exploring Fuerteventura in a retro rented campervan with Dad. ’21
📸7. Parents visiting me at work ’05. Yes, that’s me in the middle🥳 This is how I raised the adventure fund. All went to snowboarding.
📸8. I was born with Carnaval. Me proudly wearing my Sari from Mauritius. ’10
📸9. I surprised my parents for 🎅 🎄 when they thought I was out at sea with a crazy captain. Mom’s eyes were priceless. ’14
📸10. Graduation Celebration! Master Tourism Destination Management. ’Cumlaude ’10 🤓My Research was about Nature-Based tourism and adaptation to Climate change ) in 🇹🇴Tonga.

I feel grateful & privileged living so many memorable moments. Driven to sprinkle magic 🌍 with my ever evolving learnings, doings, and superpowers.

I was prepared to get lucky! 🍀🏄‍♀️🐬🥹 so i took the opportunity 🙏

Some of the prepping to realise this magic 💃

✅Parked my van in the best spot of Spain (years of research 🧐days of driving🤪)📍topsecret

✅Fixed self sufficiency with my van: solar panel, water filtration, and healthy provisions and foraging skills (years of figuring out, trial, error) so I don’t run out and can stay on the spot🧘‍♀️

✅Learn to drive this machine (my first car 😅 Conquered some fears)

✅Embrace this van in the first place (It wasn’t part of the plan)

✅Having a long board 🏄‍♀️ (weeks of searching & a serious investment at the time)

✅Have the camera battery charged (learned from 10x the mistake of having not)

✅Forced some breakfast down (Don’t like to eat early morning but my body needs it for lasting in the water)

✅Going to bed before 00.00 (So I actually wake up & take that morning session 🏄‍♀️)

✅Train 🐕 so I can take him to the beach while surfing (Still working on this one 😅)

✅Creating a little income in tune with my lifestyle so I can grab momentum with nature (10 years of hustling)

✅Continuously improving the decision making and boundary setting skills so I actually made it to this point (lifetime learning 🌱)

& a few more choices and actions here and there 🌱

🍀Yes! I am lucky! I have a healthy body, happy parents, a sweetheart of a boyfriend that encourages me to do my thing even if it means I’m months away, and the best doggy in the world ❤️

But today I also was a little prepared and I’m proud of that! Sometimes the vanlife, sailinglife or nomadlife life may look easy and dreamy from the outside but living a certain adventure only gets realised with an accumulation of lots of decisions and actions and no’s that are not captured in the process. Not always easy but so worthwhile! 💙🙏 I mean, I surfed with dolphins this week! 3 days in a row! 🙊🤩 They were so curious 🥰

Still haven’t figured it out but at least got lucky 🍀🐬🙃 & another memorable moment added to life profit 🙏

Be proud of yourself and the actions that let you to where you are today! Your next luck may just be the next intersection away 🌱

🌊 When the waves rise and the tides roar,
Respect for the ocean’s is core.
⛵️Sailing, more than anything,
has deepened this respect
💚Reminding me of nature’s power,
which we can’t neglect.
🧘‍♀️ To harmonize with the sea,
with the wind and the weather,
💃Is to dance with nature,
to be wild and free together.

Ever dream of your own garden, but the wanderlust won’t let you settle? 🌼 That’s me! ⛵️🚐🏕️🐒There is just sooo much to explore. What can possibly beat a beach house on wheels, tent, or floating house with changing scenery and 100% nature all around? You tell me ☺️

But here’s a secret😁
We kind of have a seasonal organic wild food garden wherever we sail, park or hike, or live🏕️⛵️

Wild edibles plants I’m currently finding near me in Spain: Berries, watercress, seaweed, edible flowers, wild garlic, sage, mint, and I’m sure there’s many more super powers around that I still have to find out and learn about.

But how to find out what’s safe to snibble on?🤔

1. Be super curious! A close-up of everything! 👀🌼 (Thank you @johnny__mango for your patience on the trails🙏🐌😅)
2. Chat with locals. They know!
3. Diving into foraging books 📚 I like @rosaleedelaforet & @lisettekreischer )More picks in my latest blog).
4. A bit of Trial & Error 😉.
5. Cheat with apps like ‘@picturethisai’ @plantsnap & ‘Obsidentify’.
6. Seek wisdom from foraging experts or if you’re fortunate to have them: ask grandma! I learned lots from @buit.eetbare.natuur @rewildnl 🇳🇱

I’m writing this from my hammock in front of my van. I haven't moved my house on wheels in more than 3 weeks (or 4? Lost count), and I love it. Out of my comfort zone too 🧘‍♀️😅 Besides scouting for water and wild edibles like watercress, seaweed, and berries, I have hardly any nomad challenges to deal with. Everything just works🙏 Solarpanel, surf board, tap, gas, computer, phone. Not the fridge but I don’t know any better🤣 And a little leak in the ceiling but that adds to campingvibes😁. After 3,5 years, I also finally have a toilet (Kildwick Compost toilet🥳). What a game changer. How much time you have left if you're not nomadding. And delete WhatsApp and ignoring Social Media 💃 I like to connect with you all though and have so much to share so hello again 👋🥳

I have a bit of a routine going on to work on Ocean Nomads, my blog, my surfing skills, and filming the upcoming course on Travelling by Sailboat as crew. Something I've been wanting to create since I published my book Ocean Nomad, but I never made it a priority until now. I really started to enjoy the filming, the learning process that comes with it, and can't wait to bring this new creation into the world and help more of you travel by sail with the rhythm of nature (ETA September '23). It feels great to be in a creative flow without an agenda, processing some of the adventures of this year⛵️🏕️🧜‍♀️and to just BE in tune with nature. Feeling superpowered 💃.

And so special to have crossed in the beautiful Twister with a boatload full with Ocean Nomads✨

3186 Miles sailed! In 21 days 🚀Not a single injury, accident, or argument 🙊 And still fruit salad on the last day 🥰 So proud of everyone’s teamwork and dedication!

We made landfall in Dominica 🙃Tomorrow we head south to Martinique and later the Grenadines and Grenada.
