No noise, no notifications, just you. 🧘‍♀️ Are you in solitude sometimes?One of the most special parts of hiking across the Pyrenees was the solitude. Walking alone, I found a rhythm that felt so natural. It was just me, the mountains, and my thoughts. I started planning less and noticing more.Out there, my intuition got stronger. My mind clearer. I wasn’t organizing adventures for others (Thank you Bri for keeping @oceannomads.community riding waves!) just moving with the day, listening, observing. Resting. And in that rest, dreams crystallized.
When you strip away input, opinions, and expectations, you remember what truly matters. I’ve done laundry twice this year, and my sheets smell like sunshine ☀️(in my opinion 😁)How I do laundry living in the van (and would do it if I’d live in a house)Living in a van, it’s surprisingly hard to find a washing machine where you can add your own ocean friendly detergent (twice I’ve done laundry this year as in with a machine). Most laundromats have automatic chemical-filled dosing systems. The better and easier solution: let nature take care of it💫Sun + wind = laundry day opportunity!☀️ The sun naturally disinfects
🌬️ The wind freshens
🌊 The sea exfoliates and washes me 😁No toxins. No machines. No fake fragrances.Our grandmas knew these. UV rays from the sun can kill up to 90% of bacteria in just half and hour / hour. Nature’s bleach, without the toxins.Also just wearing and sleeping in natural fabrics like wool, linen, hemp, and organic cotton, without funky bodycreams or deodorant, and just eating pure, makes things (& me😁) not stinky. Natural fabrics don’t trap odors like synthetics do. They breathe, stay fresher longer, and don’t shed microplastics into the waterways, or your skin! Synthetic clothes like polyester and nylon shed thousands of microplastic fibers every time you wash them. These tiny bits end up in our oceans, our food, and even our blood.What’s important: momentum! ☀️🌬️ it’s not always that the sun & wind is out and you’re in a place where you can take out the sheets.And when the dirt even surpasses my standards 🤣 (I also have a dog 😅) and I do find access to a waschine machine ( or bucket), I make a super simple diy washing powder kind to the sea and me.DIY Wildful Washing Powder 🧺🌿
Bakingsoda, some grated olive oil, castile or marseille soap + a few drops of essential oil ( I love lemon, lavender or bergamot)Simple Wild & Free next to the sea that’s how I like to be 💙How do you do laundry and define clean?Bonus tip! 🤓 Wear your underwear when going for your morning dip 🌊😁 and you have a new fresh panties

 I’ve bartended in the Alps. Studied in Southeast Asia. Volunteered in Peru. Lived in the tropics. Worked as a freediver instructor on a remote island. Sailed in all oceans. Became a sailboat captain. And environmentalist. Wrote books. Started a business. Chased wind in kitesurf towns. Now I live in my van, thruhiking is my new hobby, and I surf waves to stay fit and for fun. I’m studying Ayurveda. I’m a dog mum. I’ve experienced lots of trial and error. And it comes with its challenges. But if you don’t try, you’ll never know what beats your wild heart.What have you always been excited to try “someday” but haven’t “found the time” to experience?You just got to stay curious 👀 and don’t settle.
