Over to plan F. New Rules. Laws. Restrictions. Whe Over to plan F. New Rules. Laws. Restrictions. Where to go? North, East, South, or West?
As from today it’s no longer permitted to park outside of a designated camping or private terrain in Portugal with a van or camper. No sleeping in nature. In many places not even parking during the day allowed to go for a surf. To a certain extent I can agree with the new law but the alternatives for those with their tiny house on wheels as their home are not so many. While I’m pretty much self sufficient and don’t need any facility, I don’t mind to chip in for a campsite for peace of mind or to simply respect the rules. A few nights, not months. For me that’s not living. It’s passing the time and wasting my money. Time is precious. And I rather invest my euros into the local markets or street vendors🥑🍊🍞🥳

I have decided, I’m going a step wilder🐒, removing myself from constant changing rules I can’t keep track of. I have to be in my element. Only then I can be my best and contribute to a greater good 💙🌱

Will it be North, East, South, West ? I’ll tell you soon 🙂 So exciting🌱

How are new rules, lockdowns, and regulations giving your life a plot twist? Again…🙊🤪💪
And for those vanlifing in Portugal, what’s your current basecamp / new plotted course? Whatever you do, something good will come out of it! It always does.💪 Hang in there 😘 and stay wild you all! 🐒

Ps. this is me in my pino suit / top winter outfit scored at the second hand market place, infront of my house. My first house. My first car. I’m so grateful for this facility! And suit🔥🍀

So we don’t have to repeat that class. We don’t need the end of the year to reflect but we may as well. Especially this one 🤪. Here are a few thoughts on some lessons learned / insights that surfaced this year and what I’d like to remind myself of for all that’s to come. I wrote it for myself. It helps me to stay sharp and smiling. But I thought I’d share it. Perhaps you can take something away from it.

What’s an insight / lesson learned that stood out for you this year?
Time for an intro! Hello new faces, and familiar o Time for an intro! Hello new faces, and familiar ones! My name is Suzanne and the ocean has my heart. I didn’t grow up near the ocean but over the years I learned to dive, surf, kitesurf, freedive, & sail. My ocean explorations gave me a huge respect for mother ocean and a big 💙 to protect her. My hope is that by exciting and encouraging you for ocean adventure and by showing a little bit of my learnings and way of life, the ocean gets into your 💙.

A few years I lived more at sea than on land. 30.000 Miles I sailed crewing on different sailboats and seas and. Since two years, I’ve gathered the courage to also captain so I can show you what the magic is all about. Thanks to spraining my ankle very badly, twice, the ‘sailboat travel tips’ made into a book called Ocean Nomad.
~
I now live in a little oldschool camper. It’s my 1st car. And 1st house. This wasn’t part of the plan but it turns out the perfect nomad house for me for now. I feel like a princess in a palace, after all those years nomadding with just a bag. It’s a huge luxury to have access to a variety of teas, spices, a few books & a dress for the special moment. Half a year ago I was terrified of parking this camper machine. Now I’m proud to say, I’m fearless behind the wheel.
~
I’m excited about cultivating simple & conscious living. I don’t use a fridge, I explore foraging (what a wisdom!), and walk the extra mile for local produce. I use less than one diesel tank and +/- 90 liters of water each month. My trial, error, and questioning approach has gotten me pretty far so far, and I’m so excited about all there’s still to learn.
~
I quite enjoy being less ruled by the weather while still having the freedom to change when I get itchy. I can now focus more on the surf skills, ayurveda and natural medicine studies, and on increasing the value, impact and income of my two oceanpreneurial ventures:

Nature is the medicine. We all know this (right?). Nature is the medicine. We all know this (right?). But generally, we’ve become so disconnected from nature. Especially on the colder days, we can have a full day without touching nature at all. We live in shoes, houses, cars, offices. Food is sourced without any dirt left from the supermarket. We’re glued to our devices. We’ve lost touch.

Social gatherings and events are off the agenda for now. A perfect time to reinvent ourselves, learn and grow. One thing is for sure and that nothing is for sure. Lots of external factors that we can’t control. What we can control is our thoughts, what information we consume, and to a large degree how we spend our time. Instead of binge-watching away on Netflix, why not invest a little time every day in expanding your natural living skills and knowledge? Health is wealth!

Nothing beats hands-on and experience-based learning in nature. But since that’s in many situations not easy right now, there are ways so at least we keep on growing. There are lots of courses online that now offer their learnings for free or for a very accessible rate. Deepen your connection with nature and learn to live more wild, simple and sustainable. On my blog you find 10 affordable online courses that help to Expand your wilderness, health and natural living skills: www.theOceanpreneur.com/livewithnature-courses (link in bio)

What’s a topic you love to learn more about?

Are there any courses on natural living, herbal medicine, foraging or wilderness survival that you highly recommend?

What you focus on expands 🌱 Many things are not What you focus on expands 🌱 Many things are not possible right now with lockdowns and all that, and yeah it can be tough. But so many things ARE possible. Some even more than in ‘normal’ times, whatever that is😊. It’s a beautiful time to reinvent yourself, prep those adventure dreams, and simply rethink and be. When in doubt, go into nature. 🌱 It always does good.

I went on a little SUP exploration trip to Spain again today🏄‍♀️. Mask in the pocket and go. It’s these little micro adventurers that give a little fresh perspective and a dose of superpowers.

I supped across the river from Portugal to Spain today, foraged a few pomegranates and imported them to Portugal 🙊😁 Excited for breakfast tomorrow! 😋

Beauty, adventure and superpowers are all around 🌱 Just go into nature 🍀

I’m learning more and more about the foods and fruits growing in the wild that we simply have forgotten about, don’t know about or don’t know how to identify. So much is around us! And so many superpowers are in eating straight from the plant or tree. Curious to learn more on this topic? I’ve added some books and courses I recommend and read on foraging and wild identification to the resources page on Oceanpreneur.co (link in bio) Priceless knowledge for the @_oceannomads dreaming of a little plot of land somewhere someday but remaining too curious, restless and footloose to settle 😆

What’s currently growing in abundance around you in the wild?

Me and my dad. This summer I took my parents saili Me and my dad. This summer I took my parents sailing for the first time! It was actually also my first time sailing in the Netherlands this summer. With @_oceannomads we rented a little boaty and off we went. Definitely a memorable day! I sailed all over the world but only this year for the first time in my home country which is a sailors heaven. How crazy, isn’t it? I always thought sailing was such a distant reality and only for people growing up sailing or rich kids. It’s not! It’s way more accessible than I thought. Five years ago I started figuring it sailing as a way of travel. I learned to dive, kitesurf, freedive and surf and I wanted to reach further and started investigating the sailing world. After a little boathitchhike experience in Australia, and experiencing dropping anchor in the middle of nowhere (and also getting terribly sea sick), I still thought: this.is.it! A seed was planted in my head to ‘one day’ sail around the world. l figured it’ll be good to experience some offshore sailing. 30.000 Nautical Miles, about 50? boats, and four Atlantic crossings later, I learned lots about travelling by sailboat. I tried to summarize these lessons learned but it turned out into a 400 page book called Ocean Nomad.

🥳🔥💙🍀 If you order it this weekend via my website, it can be in time for X-mas! On my website it’s available in colour and as an E-book. Shipping fees are temporarily included 🙂 What drives me is getting you out there in the nature and have you experience that magic for yourself! 💙🌱 Navigate to the book page to secure your copy in time: www.theOceanpreneur.com/books (link in bio) with ordering the book you also support me greatly in creating more content and experiences for ocean adventure and conservation 🌱🙏💙 And if there’s one thing I learned is that it’s all about the people you share the experience with! Sailing around the world will happen, but with the right people, purpose and plan in place. To be continued 🙂 @_oceannomads is growing 🌱
🥳Gift guide for ocean lovers🥳 Simple, wild 🥳Gift guide for ocean lovers🥳
Simple, wild and free. In, on or near the sea. Raise your hand if that’s how you like to be 💙🌱🥳
For most of us ocean lovers, nomads and world changers counts, the less things we have, the better. We like to travel light, swim naked 🤣 and consumerism is not something we support. The holidays are coming and preferably we just receive a few pesos to put into the adventure fund instead of a present. If your friend, brother or mum insists on receiving your wish list, or if you’re looking to gift something to an ocean lover, here are some ocean minded gift ideas for adventure travellers, nomads, vanlifers, sailors, and surfers. Free gifts, zero waste gifts, creative thingies and a few suggestions in different budget ranges: www.theOceanpreneur.com/giftguide (link in bio)

What’s the number one thing in your ocean nomad kit ( or wish list)?
In an ideal world, we have unlimited access to coc In an ideal world, we have unlimited access to coconut water 😉🥥 but for most of us, this is not the reality. How do you source your drinking water? Especially as nomads, sailors, vanlifers, sourcing water can be a bit of a challenge. The last thing you want to do for the environment, your wallet, and your health is buying bottled drinking water. Globally we produce almost 20,000 plastic bottles every second, buy a million plastic bottles per Minute and it’s estimated that over half a trillion plastic bottles will be sold in 2020. Only 9% is recycled. But a bottle can never be a bottle again (references on Oceanpreneur.co). And where does the rest go?

But you also can’t trust blindly on local tap water, the quality of water tanks on boats and camper vans. You want safe drinking water, minimum pollution, an affordable water purification solution & not too much hassle. What are the options?
Over the years I’ve tested many different water filtration solutions for travelling. Pumps, jugs, counter top systems, UV filters and natural filtration with fruit, activated charcoal and few more wizard solutions. They all have their pro’s and con’s and I’ve written lots about it on my blog Oceanpreneur.co. The last 6 months I’ve been testing Maunawai! And it’s now my go to water purification system. I recommend the Maunwai Kini to fellow campervan nomads, sailors, and anyone who is looking for a better quality of water because it ticks all the boxes:
💙It makes water from the tank and taps (and rain and rivers) potable.
💙Travel-friendly
💙The water filtration system can cater to a couple of people.
💙Not too time consuming
💙Budget-friendly
💙 local, ethical & responsible produced.
The best part! Maunawai water is not merely purified, it’s alive with maximum superpowers for the human body. Even if I would live in a house, I’d use it to optimize the tap water. It’s an easy to use, simple, tasty, and affordable travel water filtration solution created by a little family business that has caring for the environment in its soul. I’ve published a full review on the blog: Theoceanpreneur.com/maunawai (link in bio) & with a discount code;) How do you source / filter water?
Nature focused CO-living Investment Opportunity fo Nature focused CO-living Investment Opportunity for Oceanpreneurs in West Algarve Portugal COsagres 🌱💙
Somewhere in the South West corner of Portugal, there’s something beautiful in the making: COsagres. In the middle of the natural park, close to the ocean, an old farm on a large plot of land is turned into a cool coliving adventure community with nature, outdoor play and circular design at the center of stage. There’ll be studios, apartments, a yoga space with views of the ocean, communal spaces, a natural pool, a place to pitch a tent, park a van, grow food, and lots more room to play, develop, build, and create. All in tune with the local culture, nature, and architecture. We don’t need to figure it all out by ourselves, to buy and build it by ourselves. This project is about sharing, caring, and collaborating so we can reach further, be more, do more, and making those sustainable living dreams come true.
